Before and After

So here is what my tray looks like after a very productive night. Not nearly enough for the show, but a good dent! And, its mostly all new stuff! Which is fun to make, and good for catalog completion.

Here is a little preview:

Today im working on sketches for my holiday line, and tonight its back to the bench. Yay!

Happy Friday guys, enjoy your last weekend of summer. Wow, how did that happen. Besides all the work im going to be doing this weekend, were also headed to the Great Frederick Fair to see Dirks Bentley. Should be a good, crisp, country night!
Ok, Im starting to get a little stessed. Luckly, I am one of those people who works well under pressure. My mom and casey may not agree, as they are the people who get the "freak out" phone calls. But none the less, its crunch time and I will get it done!

Crafty Bastards is 10 days away, and I have TONS more work to do. Im trying to coordinate all the new work I will have for the show with my catalog update. Which means A LOT of planing before the making. Its all under control though, thanks to many MANY post-it notes :)

I will have 6 new images being put into production here. They look great! Here is a little peek at what you can expect. Along with new images, I will have new bezel shapes and combos as well.

And I JUST got the email from the American Craft Council that i was not accepted for the retail section, but am on the wait list for the wholesale section. Im really excited, but dont want to get my hopes up too high. Its a wait list, i could be number 3024803 in line. I will find out my actual rank next week.

So, anyone with show experience, particularly ACC- what do you think. Do people actually decline their real invitation? I HOPE THEY DO!!

Heaven!!!!!!!

Somehow I lucked into getting both yesterday and today off work. So that mean i got two extra full studio days. It was heaven!! I couldn't have hoped for more productive days, and it was so much fun. I still have a ton to do before crafty bastards, but im getting there.

Here are the new pieces that I just sent to the casters to have ready for C.B. I have some great idea for the tear drops, and the oval and circle are BIG. I threw my hand in there just to show the scale.
And here is another idea I have been playing around with. I made one, and Im not really sure I like it. I think its a bit large. Im going to have to wear it for a day before I decide if i want to pursue the idea. What do you think?

Confession!

Let me just start out by saying...no, im not engaged, or married.

But this is what I went out this morning to buy! I LOVE LOVE LOVE weddings, the planing of weddings, the event itself, the magazines...all of it. I will also admit that I have been considering a new "real job" with an event planning company. Anyway, I will spend hours (literally) looking over these books and mags, tearing out ideas and saving them for a rainy day. I'll share some with you sometime, like i did in this post a while ago.

Ok, off to watch a girly movie and read my new mags :) Thing its back to the studio to make more work for Crafty Bastards!

Happy Weekend!

After a few 11 hour days this week, im hard at work in the studio all weekend. But you wont hear me complaining. As I work the day away im daydreaming of when I can do this all week long, and not have a "real job".

One of today's projects included making my mailing list, and getting postcards ready to go out. These are the cards I got for free from vista last week. Perfect timing for advertising Crafty Bastards!
Check this guy out, isnt he fabulous!!

Hope you guys are having a great weekend :)

Weekend Wrap-up

It has been an interesting weekend here in Baltimore. We spent most of Saturday dealing with the tropical storm that made its way up the entire eastern sea board. Mainly just rain and wind, nothing serious, and no damage. Just your typical rainy day. By Saturday night the storm had blown through and we made it out to dinner with friends. Just before dinner this is what i saw in the parking lot:
No one was quite as excited as I was, but thats ok. There is just something refreshing and fun about a rainbow :)

I spent some time today experimenting with different techniques and methods of applying images to the lucite. After much frustration the light bulb finally went off and I figured things out. What a good feeling. Im all ready to set some new pieces, and that will hopefully be done sooner rather than later.
And for the first time in a while I made something for myself! Ive been meaning to do this for about a year (literally!!) and Im glad I finally did.
Have a good day back to work tomorrow!

More new stuff!

Here is another necklace I just completed! This shows the scale of the necklaces, a little larger than usual for me.
The yellow flower print necklace has one large black onyx bead at the top connecting it to ball chain.

This blue pendant is connected to 5 aquamarine beads on each side which then connects to a sterling silver cable chain.

What do you think?

As Promised...

As promised, here is the latest idea im running with... more to follow!

And here is the coolest piece of jewelry I have ever been givin! My mom gave it to me last time I went home, and she even customized it for me with all the vintage baubles I liked most. She is going jewelry crazy. If you haven't seen yet, take a look here.
Back into the studio!

ps, I joined Twitter! Its pretty fun, and I recommend you join too!! Find me under LizMathews.

And its off...

Its finally done! I shipped the Smithsonian order out this morning. HUGE sigh of relief!! Its hard to believe that all of the time and effort I've put into this order can be packaged up into this tiny little box. It feels like it should be the size of a refrigerator box! I'm looking forward to having my evenings free again and at least one night of relaxing.

I heard some interesting news on the radio yesterday. The Farmers Almanac for 2009 is coming out and they are forecasting that the north eastern region is going to be getting more snow than average this year! This news makes me really excited!! I should also mention that the Farmers Almanac has an 80-85% accuracy rate! Looking forward to it!

Hi

Surprise, I didnt fall off the face of the earth... I'll spare you all of my excuses for not blogging and just say this; life has been busy.
I went home over the weekend to see my parents, and when i walked into my mom's office this is what I saw:
It was such fun to look all all of the goodies she had on her desk. All one of a kind, unique and vintage. And this was just the top of her desk! She has drawers and drawers of stuff too! Im always interested to see where people create and what their work spaces look like, I thought you might want to see too...

And yesterday I went to the Kennedy Center in D.C. to see the Lion King. AMAZING!!!! It was so much more interesting that i ever thought it would be. Not because of the acting, or story, but rather the costumes and they way they were worn. If you ever have the opportunity to go, do it. It was breathtaking!

Sick Day

I cought a nasty summer cold and have been busy sneezing, and coughing all day while trying to be productive. Sigh.... It's hard to stay in bed and rest on the rare occasion that I have a whole day to work on business stuff.

Orders have been shipped, castings are out, and the shop is updated. Maybe I can relax a little bit now...

Hope you all are having a good weekend!

The Time had come...

to get a real desk!! Its funny how something as simple as organizing the studio to make room for your new desk, can somehow make you feel so official!!! Now i have the proper space to keep my folders, computer and calender. Maybe I do actually have a real business...who knew... :)
