Memorial Day

Wishing you all a wonderful Memorial Day!

A French Story

I discovered this lovely story while perusing etsy this morning. It made me smile, and I thought I'd share it with all of you. If you'd like to see more beautiful jewelry, check out the French Sentiments shop here.

Once upon a time, not so very long ago, in a land both near and far, lived a jewelry girl. Oh, how this girl loved to make jewelry. She loved to make jewelry so much, in fact, she closed her needlework company to pursue making jewelry full time. The jewelry girl loved French jewelry most of all. Towards that end, she packed up her clothes and shoes and make up and coat and flew off to Paris with the Jewelry Girl's daughter. The Jewelry Girl and her daughter (we'll call her Liz, as the Jewelry Girl does) and such fun in Paris! They stayed a very long time and when their flight home was cancelled due to an airline strike, they didn't mind a bit! While in Paris, the Jewelry Girl and her daughter went to flea markets every chance they got. The Jewelry Girl bought piece after piece of wonderful French jewelry. Liz bought journals and deeds and hand written French documents because Liz loves paper!

One of the pieces the Jewelry Girl purchased was a locket. A beautiful gutta percha locket she loved beyond reason, even though it was broken. The Jewelry Girl just couldn't resist! So buy it she did. She brought it home with her and it sat on her jewelry bench for a long, long time. Over two years the locket sat. The Jewelry Girl would look at it and play with it and tried three separate times to repair the break. It was not to be. The locket remained broken. he Jewelry Girl knew the locket was still usable as even though it was broken, the broken section was riveted in place and would not fall off.The Jewelry Girl still loved the locket and vowed to use it one day.

The day came. The Jewelry Girl was very inspired to use the broken locket. She looked through all her wonderful images for the perfect piece for the locket. She tried old photographs, she tried dried flowers. Then she found an image of a beautiful bird. The Jewelry Girl cut the image to the proper size and inserted it into the locket and was very happy. She spent hours stringing the tiniest cut steel beads onto wire thread. She attached the locket to the threaded beads and was quite happy. But, the Jewelry Girl thought, it needs just one more thing.....it needs ribbon!! So the Jewelry Girl went through her huge supply of hand dyed silk ribbon (left over from her needlework designing days) and found four colors she liked. She tied them onto the locket and all was well. She was very happy! She measured her necklace and found it to be 18 inches long.

And she lived happily ever after.

The end.

Lucketts Part 2

For me, one of the best parts of being a vendor at Lucketts Spring Market was getting to see all of the booths set up before everyone had a chance to start buying all of the treasures. It felt like the "calm before the storm"- they buying storm that is.

I didn't get to snap too many photos while walking around Saturday morning, but here are the few that I did. These were all booths that really caught my eye, inspired me, or urged me to break out the credit card.

Lucketts Re-Cap

It's been four days since the Lucketts Spring Market wrapped up and I finally have the energy to upload (but not edit) photos from the event. It was beautiful, hot, inspiring, tiring, friendly, dirty, fun, tiring, dreamy, and even more tiring,

I've included several shots of our booth in this post, and plan to post photos of other vendors lovely booths soon.

Some of the first items to sell; a seltzer bottle, dress forms, a beautiful old wood trunk, taxidermy geese, huge hand written documents, spools of ribbon, one apothecary jar, and mom's jewelry

A few things things that didn't sell that I was sure would; more apothecary jars, beautiful metal scale, metal fan, carriage with flowers inside, large framed french invoices, wooden pulleys.  Go figure!

Saturday was 20 times more lucrative than Sunday, but I'm sure that's always the way these shows work. The energy and rush of Saturday shoppers on the hunt for the perfect treasure just couldn't be matched on day #2.
All in all it was a great, successful weekend, and I look forward to next year!

Lucketts- here we come!

It's finally time for the Lucketts Spring Market!

Mom and I will be spending tomorrow setting our booth up in Virginia and we are so excited for the market to open on Saturday.  We have no idea what to expect as this is both of our first times as a vendor, but we are ready to do some serious selling (hopefully!), and serious shopping (definitely)!

We have been getting together and scouring the east coast for fabulous treasures all year, and we're exited to finally offer them to our fellow vintage-lovers this weekend.

Wish us luck with all of the loading, unloading, hauling, driving, and prepping we will be doing tomorrow. We can't wait!

And if you're in the DC/MD/VA/WV area this weekend, be sure to stop by this wonderful event.

I am an artist

I spent part of the weekend locked in the studio being creative.  And I find myself here again tonight. It has been the most soul satisfying fun I've had in a long time. I feel reassured that I AM an artist, and person who was born to be creative.
Unfortunately I I don't nurture that side of myself enough these days; when time, money and inspiration seem to run short.
Starting right now I vow to change that. No matter how stressed I am, or how busy I'm  feeling I will make time to nurture my artistic side.  And I will be a happier, better, more peaceful person for it.

Thanks for listening. I'm off to create!

Check out my ephemera binder, where I keep all of my treasured and aged pieces of paper, documents, and photographs. It's taken me years to fill it up, but each and every pieces of paper makes my heart skip a beat.

The best part- there are still lots of empty page protectors just waiting to be filled...

French Memorial Plaques

My collection of French memorial plaques just keeps growing...
Each one is so lovely.
Here is a peek at a wall in my mom's house. Gee, I wonder where I got my love for these beautiful old treasures from??
