Heidi Lowe

Another weekend is wrapping up...Sunday nights always come so quickly!

I am thrilled to report that I have my computer back!!! I am in heaven!! Im not entirely sure its a good thing that i am SO addicted to my the Internet, but i really did miss it like crazy!

I spent a relaxing weekend in in Ocean City, Maryland with some of my best girlfriends. I had time to watch many Sex and the City episodes, paint my nails and work on my designs.

Today I made the trip from OC to Rehoboth Beach DE to visit the Heidi Lowe Gallery. It was well worth the trip, and I was very happy with what I saw. I met Heidi, who really couldn't be any friendlier and more personable. She is very down to earth, and is doing a wonderful job. It sounds like her gallery and reputation are really growing, and it makes me happy to see nice people doing well for themselves.

The list of artists she represents is VERY impressive, and very eclectic. The gallery has artists such as Jamie Bennett, Megan Auman, Christina Goodman, Janet Huddie, April Wood, Jennifer Pollock Harris, and Anya Kivarkis.

If you are ever in the Rehobath Beach area, you dont want to miss it!

Confessions

Confession-I have given every aspect of my future wedding much and careful consideration. (To any one who really knows me, this is NO surprise). I could tell you RIGHT NOW what details and traditions i want included in my spcial day, as well as those details and traditions i want excluded. I have a binder, well two binders actually that are full of ideas, images, inspirations, dress', cakes, invitations...you name it, its in there. I have been collecting ideas for years, literally. I don't know what it is about weddings that intrigues me. Its really not the being married (forever-YIKES!) part, but more just about that one, fabulous day.

Although i dont think most women are quite as wedding obsessed as me, i do think most have given some thought to their own wedding, if not already had their own wedding. So I just wanted to share some of the more creative ideas i have seen or heard focusing on weddings. Just some things to think about... enjoy!

-if you have many guests coming from out of town, or guests that you dont get to see as much as you'd like, consider inviting everyone to a local baseball game while they are in town for your wedding.

-place a small arrangement of flowers on seats of loved ones who are no longer with you but whom you would like to recognize during the ceremony

-long sparklers make for a lovely send off at the end of your reception

-opt for the actual photographs of you and your groom instead of the less intimate powerpoint presentation. They can be tacked to foam core or strung up using cloths pins.

-rent an old fashioned photo booth at the reception. The kind that prints strips of 4 photos!

-consider your guests comfort and provide shaws, umbrellas, sunscreen, fans etc, dependent on the weather and location

-have the caterer prepare a to-go package of food to be brought to your room at the end of the reception with a bottle of champagne. Chances are you wont have the opportunity to enjoy the dinner at the reception.

-opt for a smaller cake (much cheaper!) and have plain sheet cakes in the back that are also cut and given to guests..they will never know!

Cavallini

Need a gift for someone? Want to treat yourself?
Cavallini is an awesome company that specializes in paper products. Everything from calenders to over sized sheets of paper. They have really lovely designs and patterns that i could look at all day. They arnt cheap, but when i see their products in stores i usually have to pick something up because their products can also be tricky to find. Who couldn't use file folders, a notebook for sketching, or stickers?!?!?!

You cant order directly from the company but FLAX has their full range of products. Anthropology also carries some of their products, as well as PaperSource.
If you fall in love with their stuff like I did, be sure to keep your eye out for their holiday cards and postcards. They are super sweet and so fun to send!

A long awaited update!

Finally!!!!! I have updates for you!!

Thank you Jess, for being my guest blogger! I watched Hocus Pocus twice over the weekend for a little fall cheer. Good Call!

Exciting news- my mom, Kathy Barrick is starting her own blog for her new company Isabella Cinderella. A joint venture with her friend Anne Brown. It should be good, so check it out. She will also be doing a guest blog spot for me sometime this week, so look for that.

Ive finally refocused my energy back where it always should have been; my jewelry!! And i have been seeing some great results! Yesterday I spent all day putting the finishing touches on a bunch of projects, and brainstorming many new designs. Here is a sneak peek!

Hocus Pocus

This is Liz's friend Jess, and I'm posting due to the fact that Liz's brand new computer has crashed. I must admit I love this blog, not only because Liz is one of my best friends, but because she is so excited about her work and the art world in general! I thought I would add my two cents and post something that I am excited about this time of year. I work for a publishing company and recently received the new Martha Stewart Magazing and read it cover to cover. Now normally I find Martha to be annoying, only because she is so damn creative she makes me feel like a two year old because I'll NEVER be able to come up with all the projects she masters. But I highly recommend the Oct '07 issue, now on newstands, for anyone who enjoys fall crafts. And for anyone who looks forward to Halloween all year long, I recommend reading the above magazine while watching the best Halloween movie ever.... HOCUS POCUS! (ft. Sarah Jessica Parker)

Metalsmith

I'll admit, I have found some of the more recent Metalsmith magazines a little lacking. I had trouble finding anything that really excited me included in these issues, and sometimes the publication seems slightly behind the technology times.

However, I was quite happily surprised with the latest issue. Yes, the cover is annoyingly pink (to say the least), but the contents of this Curated Exhibition in Print issues is quite lovely. Ellen Lupton was the guest curator, and did an impeccable job selecting the artists included this year. Her statement also starts out singing the phrase of Baltimore's own Betty Cooke for her design skills. Through her eclectic selection of artists and work, I have been introduced to many new artists working today.

SNAG also has a new website up and running. Hopefully this is a peek of things to come for SNAG...

Fall!!

Fall is in the air! It makes me so happy! Today while having my Starbucks outside with Eliza, i was actually COLD, even with my jacket on! YES!! Time for layers, scarves, extra blankets on beds, and all of those good things! Halloween will be here before you know it, then Thanksgiving, and Christmas time right behind that! This is definitely my favorite time of year!

The image above is taken from the Michaels website, and is one of Martha Stewarts new kits for fall. Im loving the idea, and think i may be copying miss Martha in the near future! Im such a sucker for glitter...

I may be jumping ahead of myself a little here, but my mom just bought me this great book and i wanted to share it with you. My mom and i have a shared joy of Christmas, and start getting ready way before most people even start to think about it. Its one of my favorite things to bond with my mom over, and we always have the best time.
This book, called Merry and Bright has 301 GREAT idea for holiday decorating and entertaining. Even if i never use one of the ideas from this book (and im SURE i will), just looking at all the pictures makes me happy! Don't be fooled by the fact that Country Living put this book out either. Its absolutely fabulous, and doesn't have the gingerbread/clothespin angle ideas you might expect from the Country Living of the past. For a decorating addict like me like me, its a must read!

Fa La La La La... La La La LA!!

Another trait i got from my mom was the need to collect things in bulk. like these brass bangles! I bought them for a project that never happened (shocking!) . So now that i have been cleaning house, I decided i just don't need them anymore. Want them, think you can use them.. Great! Email me, they are yours!

Prepare Yourselves

I am officially frustrated enough with not being able to add any images to my blog, or photography any new work, that my mission for thy day is to hunt down a new cord or card reader to to connect my camera to my computer. I was trying to hold off until I get my computer back from HP, but after receiving a phone call yesterday telling me that my "expected return date is October 7th", im caving in and just buying a new one.

Prepare to be overloaded with new pictures and posts!

London

Since i have been in the process of planing my next trip abroad, I decided to look through all the photos from my last trip to London. I haven't looked at these in a LONG time, and thought i would share two of some beautiful works of art i saw while there.
I found both at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. It looks like they have an exhibition opening soon titled: The Golden Age of Couture; Paris and London. Sounds pretty interesting! They have in their permanent collection a very nice jewelry, textiles, fashion and accessories, metalworking and painting selection. If your ever in London, i highly recommend you go! (although it looks like the jewelry rooms are closed until 2008 for renovations)

Above is a Chihuly sculpture that hangs in the main entry hall.

Unfortunately, i have no info about the gate, sorry!

Updates

I am going insane without my computer, and cant wait to get it back! I wish i could say that not having my hp distraction has left me plenty of time to work in the studio, but for some reason, it just hasn't been happening. Things like weddings, cleaning, and grocery shopping all seem to get in the way. Im hopeful for this weekend though...

CONGRATULATIONS to Juliet of Broken Plate on the birth of her little boy Nolan Taylor! He looks adorable, hopefully she will be around to show him off soon!

Beth Pohlman also started her new blog recently and it looks like its gonna be good! Check it out!

More later, enjoy your weekends!
