Garden Girl

I've been watching my garden grow steadily over the past few months.

I love watering each of the plants ever morning, checking on their growth every night,  reading to learn how to harvest each vegetable, and planing meals to cook with them.

They also make excellent photo subjects!

Market Trip- April 2012

Here are a few items I brought home with me from the market a this month. I love each and every item,  and I used my  best bargaining techniques to each of them :)
A red velvet diamond shaped autograph album! I snatched this baby up the second I saw it, and for only $25 I brought it home with me. I had only ever seen one of these beautifully shaped albums before, and my mom had purchased it then. When she found out how much I love them, she gifted me with hers. Best bargain ever!
A lovely, textural, old, cream colored, chippy match safe also found its way home with me. I considered this a steel at $20, and although not too rare, this wall hanging had too much charm to pass up.
I scored another autograph album that once belonged to a fellow Lizzie. Love it!
I came across a freezer sized ziplock back of beaded flowers last weekend. The entire bag cost $15. I was squealing inside as I handed over my cash, and promptly did a happy dance as I walked away :) Beaded flowers will eternally make me happy.

What fabulous things have you come across lately?

Bonjour

Hello again, old friends.  It's been far too long- don't you think?!

We've been busy building a fence, working on a new business project, looking for a new job (for Joe), visiting with out of town guests, preparing for Lucketts Spring Market, tending to the garden and rearranging the house- just to name a few things. It's been busy to say the least!!

I'm happy to be back to blogging, and promise some good posts in the near future :)

So, what have you guys been up too??

Meet the Parents

I hope you all had a great Easter holiday filled with good friends, family, food, and pastel colors!
This years celebration was extra special for us because Joe's family came to celebrate and have Easter dinner with with Mare and me.  It was the first full family meeting ever, and it couldn't have gone more perfectly. The conversation flowed, stories were told, and the house was filled with laughter.
Mare's traditional Easter dinner includes a wine and/or beer pairing with each course and every one was phenomenal. We drank everything from bubbly champaign to beers I won't pretent to know anything about :) The food was fancy and decadent- everything is should be for the occasion.
I definitely got my domestic tendencies from Mare- just look at this hand decorated brie en croute!  I wish I had photographed all of the courses as well as the massive number of beer and wine bottles we went through, because both were impressive!
Not only was the food wonderful, but so were the lovely plants that were growing everywhere we looked.  Luckily the weather was perfect for sitting out on the deck and soaking up some sunshine.

Although Mare may not agree, I'm thinking we need to do way more dinner and wine pairings. It was too much fun for only once a year!

Washington DC

Today I wanted to share few highlights from our day trip to Washington DC  celebrating my birthday.  Just like the last time I was here, I'm wondering why we dont get down to our nations capital more often? It's such a beautiful, energy infused, treasure trove of a city that sits a meer hour away from us- yet we hardly ever explore it. I'm hoping to change that this spring and summer, and since we never got beyond the Museum of Natural History during this visit I'm sure we'll be back again sooner rather than later.
As soon as you walk into the museum you are greeted by this large African scene featuring a large grey elephant, and seeing this takes me right back to being a little girl and visiting the museum as a child.

The shell and fossil exhibit was one of my favorite, and this shell in particular stood out. When I got home and edited this photo, I loved it even more!

The t-rex and "dinosaur bone" wing of the museum is another place that brings me right back to being a kid. As a child I loved dinosaurs and would request a trip to the museum to see the fossils whenever I could.

The Gem and Mineral section of the museum is where we spent the most time, and it was hands down my favorite area. Joe was a good sport as I out endless gemstone varieties and took millions of photos.
I find that Joe's serious demeanor really shines through in the photograph.
We had a great day exploring this local city and I thank you for joining me in looking at some of the highlights. I hope we have encouraged you to get out and explore the fabulous locations that surround you.
