Travel: The Next Vacation

We've been trying to decide where we'd like to go on our next vacation, and we're having a really hard time choosing. We'll be hitting the road in September, and would like a relatively inexpensive location (is the possible?), so that we can save for an overseas trip next spring.  With so many expenses to consider- flights, food, hotel, sightseeing- I'm feeling a little discouraged about not having much time to save before September, yet I don't want to miss the opportunity to get away.

Here are some of the places we're considering:
Boston! I've never been to this city before, but I've heard only good things. There are cheap flights to Boston from Baltimore, and I don't think we'd need to rent a car for too many days. Although I would definitely like to get out of the city for a day or two. There is something very appealing about New England, and I can only imagine the great antiquing I could do up there. Poor Joe!

Portland and the northwest coast! Since we'd like to move here one day it makes sense that want to visit. It's the most beautiful area I've visited in the U.S. and I'd love to go back and check out the different areas more thoroughly. This location tops my list!

Chicago! Again, I've never been to the windy city- but think I'd like to visit. This is probably at the bottom of my list. Should it be higher?
Denver and Boulder! We both have friends who live in Colorado that we'd love to see. The beautiful scenery doesn't hurt either.
And finally Seattle! The rain makes me nervous, but again, it's on the North West coast, and that's where we want to be. This location is seriously in the running.

So many decisions and factors to consider! Do you have any suggestions or tips? I'm starting to look into packages to save a few bucks, and I've been finding what seem to be good deals, although I haven't read the fine print yet.  I can't wait to decided and start the planing process!

Create: Photography

I've had two weeks of photography classes now, and it turns out photography is so much more complicated than I ever thought. Fun-but complicated! I am so looking forward to mastering all of the techniques! I'm determined to learn, and having the best time practicing!

Happy Wednesday! We're half way through the week- I hope it's been good for everyone!

Collect: Vintage Books

When I'm antiquing I constantly find myself opening the covers of old books, hoping (with my breath held) that inside I will find line after line of old writing, hand colored images, beautiful pen and ink drawings, or beautiful text. I'd say that for ever 30 books I check out I only ever end up buying one.  Sometimes I find a book with a beautiful cover- in which case I dont care about the content, but for the most part I care more about the contents than the cover.  After all, you can't judge a book by its cover!

Yesterday, I found this book... a book with no cover!  It was inside of a large zip lock bag, and would have been very easy to miss, but like I said- I'm not one to walk by a book that could possibly have something interesting.  Once I opened the bag and had a brief look, I thought it had some interesting text and images, and was worth its $8 price tag. I though it would be a good item to offer in my shop.

When I got home and started photographing items to list in my shop I opened up the book to photograph some of the pages, and to take a closer look. Once I started flipping through the book, I realized how incredibly beautiful this book is.  Page after page of etiquette notes, illustrations, instructions on penmanship, and notes on how to write a letter, how to write a check, and the propor way to adress an envelope, just to name some of the subjects!  Just beautiful! I'm so glad I bought this book, and can't believe it didn't see how amazing it was in the store. This book will definitely not be making its way to the shop, and I'm happy to have it in my collection.

Happy Sunday!

I've been having a lovely weekend full of photography, shop updates, catching up with friends and family, and of course- Antiquing!

These photo's were actually taken last weekend, as we were about to do some serious damage in Columbia, PA.
One of our many stop was a fabulous antique shop just on the rivers edge under an old, unused bridge.

Happy Father's day to all the Dads out there! I hope you're celebrating however you're most happy! For both my step-dad and dad that involves motorcycles, so I won't be seeing them today- but im certainly thinking about them!
